HOW DO YOU MEASURE A SUCCESSFUL WORKOUT?


I see so many people raving about a workout, or a trainer, because of things like how sweaty they got during their workout, how out of breath they were, how much they struggled to complete it, how sore they were for days afterwards...

All of those things CAN be a part of an effective workout, but none of them are PROOF of an effective workout! The ONLY thing you should ever gauge your workout by, is:

IS IT MAKING YOU BETTER?

DOES IT GET YOU CLOSER TO YOUR GOAL?

Just because you sweat buckets does mean shit - It just means your body temperature is highly elevated. Just because you couldn't catch your breath doesn't mean you're getting fitter - you may even be getting worse. Just because a workout is tough doesn't mean you are - any idiot can create a tough workout. Just because you are sore for days doesn't mean you're improving - it just means you haven't recovered quickly and now can't train properly until you do.

Measure your workouts by their EFFECTIVENESS. Not by any other traditional or mainstream nonsense.

Sure, you will probably sweat, get out of breath, find it uncomfortable and potentially have some muscle soreness. But please do not use those as an indication that it was a great workout. Are you getting better? Are you getting closer to your goals? If not, you're just spinning your wheels, burning yourself out, and likely getting worse.
